International industrial cleaning contractor Sureclean completed its largest project to date providing services in support of the Haewene Brim FPSO, Brynhild Project modification and upgrade.
Through its relationship with Global Energy Group, Sureclean was contracted to carry out work on the Haewene Brim FPSO whilst it was situated in the dry dock at Nigg Energy Park, Ross-shire for modification and upgrade work from July-November 2013.
Over the course of this project, Sureclean completed more than 40 work scopes for their client’s including safeguarding and management of confined space entry within the vessel’s 140 tanks (including vessels and voids), the company said. Other workscopes completed by the Alness and Aberdeen based company included tank and vessel cleaning, NORM management, pipe and vessel insulation removal, fireproof material removal, industrial cleaning and waste management.
Sureclean provided support for all contractors working on the project including emergency response teams, safety equipment and management and permitry controls for all confined spaces throughout the vessel.
Project Manager, David Munro, commented, “Sureclean had designated tank coordinators working 24 hours per day to ensure that all vessel entries were managed correctly. We used a point scoring system to ensure that tank entries were controlled at all times and did not clash with simultaneous operations within the vicinity. Forward planning and close working relationships were essential between all contractors onsite to facilitate those requiring entry into confined spaces”.
Using their temporary area gas monitoring equipment, Sureclean also ensured that the entire vessel was free from hazardous gases for the duration of its stay at Nigg. Real time gas readings were constantly monitored and recorded by designated tank coordinators within the remote permit office on the quayside and an emergency response team took action if gas levels exceeded the identified safe parameters.
Sureclean said the project was is its largest to date, with a project management team based at site for the duration and Sureclean man-power peaking at 143 with 75% of their workforce local to the area.
Ensuring they had the capabilities to carry out all work scopes required, along with their other day-to-day operational requirements, Sureclean invested in excess of £1 million in additional project-specific equipment.
